Welcome to Lost Creek, West Virginia
and surrounding counties!
Map of West Virginia
T
he Mountaineer Region consists of special communities with a
unique past, exciting present, and promising future. Scattered throughout Harrison County,
they offer a wide variety of things to make life pleasant. Golf at several country clubs.
Hunt in woods and fields. Fish in nearby streams and lakes. Visit local malls with small
specialty shops and large department stores.
The Clarksburg area continues to be an important crossroads,
on US 50 and I-79. Many new businesses have built or relocated here due to easy access to
mid-Atlantic metropolitan areas. They include FBI Fingerprinting Facility, Precision Coil,
Lockheed Aeronautical Systems, Winfield Corporation, and West Virginia Aerospace Center.
Excellent medical facilities include one of the finest VA hospitals in the East, and
United Hospital Center, which serves several counties.
The area has the nation's lowest crime rate, making our way
of life even more desirable. One of many recreational areas is Stonewall Jackson Dam in
Lewis County. Easy to reach via I-79, the 2,000 acre lake with 82 miles of shoreline is
part of a 20,000 acre outdoor area. Taylor County boasts Tygart Dam, with year-round
lakeside resort, tent or camper sites, and a ten-mile lake for water sports. Audra State
Park and Water Smith State Park offer many activities. The North Bend Rail Trail is a
66-mile stretch of railroad line in four counties. Pricketts Fort in Marion County was
built in 1774 as a refuge for pioneers on the Virginia frontier. Re-creations of their
lifestyle are demonstrated.
Philippi in Barbour County is the site of one of America's
most famous covered bridges, dating to the Revolutionary War. Barbour County has a county
fair in July, with Civil War reenactments, livestock displays, and a carnival Many other
communities offer fairs and festivals year round. In late spring, Buckhannon's Strawberry
Festival introduces the first berries of the season and fine hand-crafted items. Labor Day
weekend brings the Italian Heritage Festival: people from all over the world come to
Clarksburg for food, music, and dancing. City parks offer live bands on summer nights, and
on July 4th a symphony orchestra plays during the fireworks display. The Lewis County
Jubilee is a popular arts & crafts fair. The Salem Apple Butter Festival draws many to
watch the kettles on the wood fires and Elkins Mountain State Forest Festival celebrates
